Each painting in this series presents an image underscored by a voice revealed through text positioned on a reserved section of unpainted canvas. Texts are composed as fragments of imaginary documents or incomplete narratives. The initial idea was to expose the canvas as both a literal and a metaphorical entity. I found its similarity to fine writing paper compelling, as writing paper is a medium used in one-on-one communication.

As the series evolved, the subjects to which my mind gravitated began to insinuate disguise, pretense and other devices employed in the pursuit of anonymity, solitude or self-preservation. Other subjects have now appeared as well.
